The MadMan Manifesto

Urggg! Hubris! What a pain! Here I was happily thinking (in my ignorance!) That all was right with the world, and my Blog. It looks fine in Firefox, but when i look at my Blog in Internet Explorer... Ugh! It's all screwy! why didn't anyone tell me??? Oh, well... back to the drawing board!

Guess i'll be working on making it compliant this weekend!

Yikes!

The Most Incredibly Brilliant Blog in the World?

Well, i'm certainly not talking about this Blog! However, if you click on the title of this post, it should take you to a new Blog, and that guy is one crazy character! If it doesn't work, try clicking on that funny-looking "eye" lower down the right-hand side of this Blog, that will take you to his website.

In other news, you may have noticed several changes to the Manifesto, including a way to subscribe, so you will no longer run the risk of missing the incredibly brilliant writing I do here! Ahem. Also I added a Google search link to facilitate looking up terms or words that you, my readers, may be unfamiliar with. There is one to the right, and another at the bottom of the document.

I added a "weatherpixie" which shows the weather here under the rainbow, and I will be adding others to represent various friends around the country. I have also added Links to various other Blogs and interests of mine. Expect that section to grow.

One of the subtler changes i made, was to the comments section. Previously, clicking on the comments would take you to another page, requiring you to click back again afer reading it. Now it drops down with a single click, and you stay on the same page. I thought it was pretty nifty.

More upgrades and changes to come as I learn about what's possible.

The next post will be very soon, I promise! No more waiting months to see what's going on....

Of course you can have my autograph!

Offline for a Week!

I'm baaack! Yup, i had a real bad problem with my computer, something to do with a cracked motherboard, and damage to my hard drive. Luckily, it was all covered under warranty. The damage was unlucky for me, in that all my data was lost. This is a good reason to backup all your necessary files on a regular basis, or at least those files that are irreplaceable.

I had some files saved to CD, but they only hold so much data, 700MB or so, unfortunately i hadn't re-saved it in a few weeks, so i lost a lot of personal files id've liked to have kept. Oh well, that's life for you.

I hope everyone missed me a whole lot, though i know most of you never even noticed, eh?

Hope you all have a decent weekend, i'll be spending mine online....

Retractable Leashes...

...are sooo much better than the fixed-length type, they allow your dog to stop an sniff the roses (or whatever) while you keep on walking along, at least until you reach the end! Then Fido knows it's time to run back for your approval, (or explain that there was something really interesting back there, and you just have to go look! Ugh! a dead toad!) a few words of encouragement, and off she goes again! Basically, these types of leashes give your canine companion more room to explore her surroundings, while still keeping her safe, and out from underfoot.

I have this 26-footer that is just the best! Sheena always takes it out as far as she can, usually on the other side of the road, and trots along sniffing out whatever she finds interesting. Often she wants to drag me down some side path into the bushes, no doubt following some trail only she can see/smell.

The only problem i have, is that her collar always comes loose; she's half Shar-Pei, so she has a band of really loose, thick skin all around her neck, and i'm always moving it around, tightening it, etc. sometimes it gets right up on her ears, and i don't want to make it too tight, otherwise she starts making choking sounds, which scares me.

All-in-all, i really like this leash, walking her is much easier, and more fun for her, to boot.

Have a happy Sunday, and enjoy your walks, even if you don't have a dog!

Lot of work today!

Hello All, lots of work to do today, but first, i wanted to share a photo of Sheena, and one of the kittens, (watching Sheena) here it is:

Well, i had a lot to do today, we were planning on having a party, and the barbecue was all rusted out, (y'know how rain just eats them things up!) luckily, since we live on a volcanic island, instead of heading down to SEARS, we just dug a hole in the backyard, and sure enough, after 3 or 4 feet we hit lava! Don't even have to worry about running out'a briquets or charcoal lighter fluid! Here's a picture of the firepit i dug:

Anyway, we just threw the steaks on a couple skewers, lowered 'em down for about a minute, and they wuz cooked thru! Same with the hotdogs, and chicken. Yummm! Them lava pits sure are useful!

However, before all that, we had to clear out the driveway; seems that there pesky lava done covered up the road to our house, so we had to dig it out before the people we invited could come on over. Here's a picture of how it looked before we cleared it out:

As you can see, its not all about having a Mai Tai while lounging in the sun! There's some work we have to do here before we can relax and Party! Those are just minor inconveniences though. It takes more time to climb up the coconut tree to grab coconuts!

Anyway, hope you all are having a wonderful weekend, and those of you in hurricane country, remember, Hawaii is just a short hop across the states!

Aloha!

..Ohh..This Glorious Madness...

Once again, the power has gone out while trying to write a post, leaving me to try again. Good thing this laptop has a battery to keep me going, however, that does nothing to help re-connect me to the net.

You'd think having our own geothermal energy plant on the island would cut down the number of power outages, but apparently not. Even on an island with less than half the population of Honolulu, we seem to exceed our usage, even at 04:15 in the morning!

At least i was able to finish downloading some music tracks (paid for!) before the power went out. I seem to be on a country music kick for the last year, which is directly attributable to my Dear Laura. That doesn't mean i'm not also listening to other types of music, it's just i find i'm listening to more country-type music than i ever did before. Of course, my tastes tend to lean more toward the New Country genre, its more like pop or contemporary.

I downloaded some Sarah McLachlan, Faith Hill, Lee-Ann Womack, Shania Twain, and Martina McBride tracks before my connection was lost. Is it just me, or do all these singers tend to be incredibly attractive? Aren't any of them just "plain janes"? Maybe it's their makeup artists....

I tend to favor Shania Twain over the others, she just seems so full of dynamic energy, even in her ballads. Faith Hill has the best "breathe-y" seductive voice, and Sarah McLachlan has a nice melancholy voice, good for slipping you away.

I hope you all are taking time to enjoy your own collections of music!

Am i an awakeaholic?

Hello there!

I’ve had about six hours of sleep and so far today, I haven’t got much done. I’m really tired and I want to sleep, but I just can’t seem to find the sandman. Reading makes me sleepy, but as soon as I start to put the book down I get wide awake again. I find that the voice recognition program doesn’t work too well when i’m in this state, because my voice is scratchy and I tend to slur my speech. I also have a fan blowing because it’s hot, and the noise interferes with the microphone causing the program to make more mistakes.

What would be a good gift for a dog? Something that is not over the counter, it would be fun for the dog to play with, and cheap to make. Give me your ideas! Post a comment, and let me know what you think. For your prize, you get the knowledge of making a certain dog very happy! Sheena will love you for it!

I made some changes to the look of the post, since MikMak complained her eyes were soooo bad, she has to use a magnifying glass just to read it!

I’m going to go back to my book now, so y’all have a good day now, or night y’hear?!

Speech Recognition....Yay!

Hello everyone!

This is my second attempt to write a post using the speech recognition program on my computer. The first one I attempted to write was going along well, and then I said something wrong apparently, and it got deleted! I guess this is one of the dangers of working with the speech recognition program, but overall it works pretty well I must say!

Okay this time I stopped and saved it using the voice commands and it worked fairly well, I only had to make one correction. This is a little slow going because for every ten words it gets correct one or two are wrong, which isn’t a bad score. This is not as fast as I thought it would be but it should pick up speed as it gets used to my voice. It works in all Microsoft office programs as well as the windows basic environment. But I noticed it doesn’t work in aftermarket programs. I need to read the help file and see if there are some settings I can change to make it work.

One thing I’ll mention, is you have to place punctuation by speaking it. For example: “comma” needs to be spoken aloud, but in order to place the word between the quotes I had to type it out which is a pain so maybe I need to see if there’s another way to do it. I’m looking forward to writing my first e-mail using this feature. No doubt a lot of you out there on the web are using this type of program a lot, so this post is pretty boring to you since the technology came out several years ago. But for me it’s fresh and its fun!

I hope everyone’s Sunday turns out great!

Lots of love to everyone out there, you know who you are!

Eight hours sleep out of Sixty...

Well, it seems i just can't keep my eyes shut! Didn't do too much today 'cause of all the rain, yet i still managed to get Sheena some exercise, and the Kittens finally showed up, all wet and bedraggled, cleaning their fur, hissing if Sheena got too close.

I'm reading "Insomnia" by Stephen King at the moment; it seemed appropiate in this situation. I've read it before, many years ago, and was surprised to see it on the shelf again, but i've lost enough of the story from my memory to make it all new and fresh again. That's probably why i like reading so much, it engages the mind, and draws you down a path of imagination as you try to see or anticipate how the author's story will conclude.

Wow, my eyes are going all blurry, and i find it hard to concentrate at this moment, yet my mind is still racing around, and as i close my eyes, i feel dizzy, yet not sleepy. Actually, i don't really feel like writing too much at this point. I'm going to go back to studying my Dreamweaver software.

Sheesh! Yet another Slammer virus tried to infect my machine while i was writing this!

Tally Ho!

Rainy..Rainy...Day.

Gawd, I am just sooo sick of this rain! It's been raining all day, and if it wasn't so bloody humid, I might like it, but I can't even nap properly. i've had 4 hours of sleep in the last 24, from 08:30 to 12:30, so I have some catching up to do....eventually.

The kittens have been missing for most of the day, I wonder if Sheena ate them? Probably not. They're out there doing kitten things, exploring this tropical rainforest that is their home; stalking the wild insects that thrive in this climate. I haven't really named them yet, Dad calls them "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" marginally funny, but not really worth the effort of laughing. One is a grayish silver, and the other a tawny gold, so I was thinking of naming them 'Silver' and 'Gold', but maybe they need something more warm and personable. Suggestions, anyone?

Post a comment and i'll choose the most appropriate. In fact, next time I catch them together, i'll take a picture and post it, to give you some ideas.

I came across a video website that makes small, yet very well made free! short films. You can find it at
Atom Films and some of them are really quite funny! If you have broadband access, take a look.

That's it for now, i'll post more later.

If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

...Another Day in Paradise...

Well, and here we are once again, frolicking thru the mind of a serial insomniac! Today went by pretty fast, though i'm sure it was because i was surfing the web all day, trying to find something interesting. Also, i somehow managed to take Sheena (my dog) on 4 separate walks today, with the last one down to the University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball field; which is just down the street from my cave. Sheena had a really good time, since i brought along a soft frisbee, and she just loves to play catch. Crazy canine! (but lovable!)

The kittens have gotten used to her rambunctious ways, watching her tear around the place from their lofty abode, keen cateyes tracking her every move.

I did finally manage to figure out how to post a profile picture, and as you can see, Its my Iconic Representation, not the real me, as you may or may not have wished.

What else did i do? Well, i got a new web browser, (sort of) its called MyIE2 and adds more functionality to the standard IE browser, giving me tabs to work with in a single window, instead of mutiple windows all over the place, a plug-in called UCmore which gives you better search functions, a research tool called LookWAYup (you just highlight a word and click the button) that searches for compatible words/spelling/reference. I've yet to discover all the bells & whistles.

I also spent some time puzzling out HTML code, and while it seems pretty easy on the surface, i'm learning there are many more steps to go, depending on how i want this site to look. I need to learn some Flash & Java as well if i want this site to look good. Ugh! More stuff to learn!

Well, my friends, i shall take my leave and bid you all adeiu.

First Post

Aloha! This is my first real post at my new Blog, which is, unfortunately, still undergoing some tweaking, like trying to figure out how to get a picture posted to my profile.

Now onto the post:
It's nearly a quarter to 3am here in Hawaii, and the stars are out for a change, (its been stormy weather the last few nights) no dogs are howling, and i've spent an ungodly ammount of time setting up a web page; (space provided by my ISP) only to discover that i can't find a way to post it. Apparently they take the "no-bones" approach, or the "MS Frontpage" way, and all i have on my computer is MS Publisher, which you think would work, but apparently not. Then i tried to learn some HTML, but just from studying a few guides that are available on the net, i can see this is going to be a serious commitment.

All this reading has made me sleepy, so i think it's time to curl up with my HTML guide, and get some shut-eye. After a few paragraphs, i should be able to pass out.

Until next time, Au Revoir!
